| Most skin problems such as acne, psoriasis, and eczema are caused by allergies, particularly food allergies. After all, what affects us internally will also affect our exterior health. Everything we ingest, whether food, beverages, air and its pollutants, cigarette smoke or affects our physical health. So, the healthier your diet the fewer skin problems you will have! One of the best ways to foster clear, problem-free skin is by experimenting with an elimination diet, removing some of the most common irritant foods such as wheat, dairy, and sugar, and seeing if your notice a difference (see False Fat Diet for details). For improved, healthier skin, choose as much as possible organic products and load up on foods and oils high in antioxidant content and omega-3 fatty acids. Blueberries, mangosteen, cacao, goji berries, purple corn, milk thistle seeds, plums, artichokes and pecans all have a "high antioxidant capacity." Together with the phytochemicals in some of these foods, you can be protected from skin cell damage, thus helping to prevent premature aging of the skin. Oils with omega-3 fatty acids such as Hemp Seed Oil, Flax Seed Oil, Walnut Oil, Linseed Oil, Evening Primrose Oil and Wheat Germ Oil are also crucial to overall health and especially enhance skin health. Try them as salad dressings or even in smoothies. Most people experience improvements in their skin conditions after changing their diets, but if you have a history of iffy eating and exposure to sketchy chemicals (prescription, pollution, or playtime) you might want to focus specifically on mangosteen, purple corn, milk thistle seeds.
Milk thistle has been used for millenia to cleanse and even regenerate liver tissue. Clogged and toxic livers often lead to less-than-perfect skin, so a daily snack of milk thistle seeds could do the trick!
Mangosteen has a long history of use as a skin tonic, so experiment with making a cacao butter lotion in your kitchen and mix in a little Mangosteen for added tonifying! Remember, your out-side is only ever as healthy as your in-side! |
