Homemade Healthy Hair Gel

Non-toxic Styling Gel!

I've always been wary of the long list of chemicals in the ingredients of my hair products, but usually make exceptions for special occasions...like my daughter's school play.

I was doing her hair and costume in a rush before we had to leave the house, when we completely finished the old bottle of gel we were using...and she still had half a head of hair left to style!

Fortunately, I happened to be making some sprouted flax seeds and was just at the stage of separating the gelatinuos liquid from the seeds.

BING! The lightbulb went off and I experimented with a dab on one of her precious curls...

...and it worked!

Not only that, this flax seed gel has no odour, is all-natural, very cheap and when it dries, it doesnt leave any visible residue..so now we keep a jar in the fridge for non-toxic, non-allergenic hair gel, any time we want a little extra body or hold in our hair! I have curly hair and this holds and defines my curls really nicely without feeling sticky or hard. I wont say that it has a strong hold, but it's enough for calming frizzy hair.

Ingredients:

2 Tbsp Whole Flax Seeds
1 cup water
Pure Aloe Vera Gel, if desired
Few drops of essential oil for scent

Instructions:

Bring water to a boil. Stir the seeds into the water and reduce heat. Simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring constantly, until a gel-like lotion is formed. Strain through a fine strainer or cheesecloth into a small bottle. Add essential oils and store in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. If desired, you can add some pure aloe vera gel for its moisturizing properties. Fill the bottle with flax seed gel until bottle is about 3/4 full, then fill to the top with pure aloe vera gel.

Gel will not flake or make the hair hard or crunchy. Safe to use everyday.

I usually add about 4 to six drops of rosemary oil because it's good for the hair and is a natural preservative that will stretch your hair gel beyond one week.
